A Few Signs It May Be Time To Move Out Of Your Starter Home

Buying your first home is a milestone that you never forget. For some, having to buy a second home seems scarier than the first. At the time, you never thought you would need anything more than this home, it was perfect. As you get older, you may start to realize that the time to move has come sooner than you predicted. At Highcrest Home Lending, we understand that the home-buying process is a big one and we’re here to guide you every step of the way. Here are a few signs that it may be time to make a move.

1. You are in need of more space.

Have you noticed that your living room is looking a little more crowded these days? And by crowded we mean, maybe your living room has become the playroom, the office, the home gym and maybe even a storage area. If you’re thinking to yourself, “well maybe I just need to get rid of some stuff and then we would have more space,” then it might be time to move into a bigger home.

2. Your family is growing.

At the time of purchase, your three bedroom two bathroom home seemed absolutely perfect for your little family of three. Seven years, three children and a few pets later, you may find yourself living in closer quarters than you would like. With the possibility of having more children and the bedrooms already full, a home with more bedrooms may be in order.

3. Your current home is starting to require more maintenance.

As years pass, you may find yourself spending more time and money on your home’s upkeep than you would prefer. First you might have the urge to update areas here and there. A different paint color? Completely fine. Updated hardware? Great idea. But maybe you’re noticing that your minor updates are turning into major upgrades that aren’t financially smart for your current home. If that’s the case, it may be time to make a move.

4. Your location is no longer ideal.

As a twenty-two year old, being five blocks away from your favorite downtown spot was absolutely perfect. Fast forward ten years and you may find that your needs have changed. Maybe things that seemed ideal then look a little different now that you have children or your career has grown. You now need a home in a good school district, a safe neighborhood for your children to play and maybe even a home that is closer to your new job.

At Highcrest Home Lending, we can all relate to each of these things. With growing families, we understand all of the joys and challenges that come with buying a new home. With our expertise and first hand experience, we can truly bring you the best way home.
